The GMC roots blower was developed and used originally on Detroit 4-71 diesel engines which were 4.7l / 284 cubic inch (ci) inline 4’s. Later modified and then copied / re-engineered for racing, street and marine use. The 4-71 is a 3 lobe design with a 30 degree helix.
